Guru Ka Langar
One of the holiest places in Amritsar is also known to host one of the most famous restaurants in Amritsar! Imagine, sharing a huge table of food with fellow pilgrims is a great feeling that you can relish. Guru Ka Langar is a huge community feast that is cooked in the temple's kitchen. They are prepared to serve a crowd of at least 40,000 people. No soul is turned away from the langars that are hosted by the temple. You sit on the floor in disciplined rows and are served with unlimited helpings of dal, vegetables, rice, roti and water. The food is extremely simple and homely, so don't expect oily restaurant-kind food. The feast is free of cost, and the individuals serving the dishes do it voluntarily. They are Sikh devotees who choose to take up the responsibility to feed others as a form of selfless and humane behaviour.
