About 7 km away from Bhubaneswar are the Khandagiri Caves, that were built by King Kharavela in the 2nd century BC. The carvings here are a blend of mythology and history. You will also find several references to the Kalinga war where women and teenagers fought to save their motherland from Ashoka's army.
