The Bangalore Airport is owned and operated by Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), which is a public limited company. The consortium is co-owned by private and public ventures where the Karnataka State Industrial Investment and Development Corporation (government entity) owns 13 per cent. Kempegowda International Airport lacks a connection with the main city as it is approximately 40 km away from the city centre. The government had planned to bring forth a link between the city and the airport with metro stations.
