Food and Restaurants in Diu

Diu's cuisine comes with some Portuguese influence as it was once a colony of the Europeans. You will find a brilliant blend of flavours in their cuisine as it sustains the Indianness in the food despite its Portuguese elements. This is something you'll primarily notice in the way they cook their fish and seafood. Since Portugal is also a country surrounded by water on one side, they share the same enthusiasm when it comes to seafood. From lobsters to crustaceans, you will find all kinds of seafood here made with a European touch that will transport you to a different world.

You will find Silver Pomfret in Diu. It is said that the fish is actually the largest of its kind that you won't find anywhere else in India. For vegetarians, Apana Foodland is probably the only place in Diu that serves lip-smacking dishes. You should also visit Ram Vijay, which is an ice cream parlour.

How to reach Diu (Transportation)

By Air

Despite being in the airports league, Diu is often misunderstood not to have a runway or a dedicated airport. However, this is not true because the Union Territory does have an airport going by the name Diu airport. Before the colonial rule ended, Diu was part of India colonised by the Portuguese. The flight connectivity to Diu from various metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad are quite good. Air Deccan and SpiceJet have reserved dedicated flights to Diu, which travels to and from the city regularly. The airport is located only 5 km away from the main city, making travelling extremely convenient. It is also closer to Nagoa Beach, which assures that the take-off and landing views would be a visual spectacle.

The airport is not spacious and can only accommodate a handful. However, it is always on demand, making flying to Diu a little difficult. As long as you book your tickets to Diu in advance, you will be able to avail some good flight deals. In fact, if you book at the right time, you might find some cheap tickets to Diu too.

By Rail

Diu does not have a dedicated railway station. In fact, for railway services, travellers will have to go to Veraval or Somnath. These two cities are actually quite far from Diu. While Somnath is 63 km away, Veraval is at 67 km. Hence, trains are the last resort that travellers consider.

By Road

Diu has excellent roadway connectivity. Several domestic routes through NH 8 connect Diu to some of the big cities in India. Although cities such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Rajkot are over 200 km away from Diu, the road network is so amazing that the travel time is reduced from these cities. Not to mention how the roads are well-maintained, adding to the convenience of the driver. There are some state-run buses between Diu and Ahmedabad that run regularly. Aside from the government-owned buses, there are private serviced buses available too. Even though some buses traverse inter-city, many big cities do not have a dedicated series of buses to Diu. Most people travel to either Ahmedabad or Mumbai to take a road trip to Diu. It is a viable option and easily doable as the roads are well-connected.

  About the Nashik

The Wine Capital of India, Nasik (also pronounced as Nashik), is a popular tourist destination and pilgrimage in Maharashtra. The City not only has a lot of temples but is also famous for the Sula Vineyards. While you are visiting the Trimbakeshwar temple, make sure you also visit the Dugarwadi Waterfall. It's like paradise for all nature lovers, and you'll only have to trek for 1 or 2 km amidst the forest to get to the waterfall. Best Time to Visit Nashik

Winter is the perfect season for you to visit Nashik. It's pleasant and suitable for sightseeing. The winters start from October and last till March. The City experiences monsoon from June to September. While the weather is quite pleasant during monsoon but it's not the best time to travel. You can opt for a monsoon trek to one of the hills around the City, but you will have to be cautious since hilly areas can get a little slippery. April through May are the hottest months in the City. You might want to avoid travelling during this time. The streets will be dry, and it is favourable to plan any trip to Nashik during winter.

Places to Visit in Nashik

Trimbakeshwar temple is believed to be one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples and has lots of devotees coming to offer their prayers. Nashik has a lot of importance and prevalence in Indian mythology. You can go trekking at the Brahmagiri Hills or opt for a sunrise trek at Kalsubai. There are options for water babies as well. Visiting the Sula Vineyards for wine tasting is a favourite activity in the area. You also get to play your part in making more wine and fair warning: you might have to get your hands dirty to experience some wine-making. Go white water rafting at the Vaitarna river to satiate the water baby in you. You will not regret it one bit. You might also want to visit the different waterfalls that Nashik has to offer.

Plan a trek to Dudhsagar falls or the Vihigaon waterfalls, whichever suits you the best. You can also give traditional Maharashtrian food a try while you are in Nashik. Food and Restaurants in Nashik

Nashik is famous for the plethora of Maharashtrian food that it has to offer. Thalipeeth, Maharashtrian thali, misal pav, sabudana vada, vada pav, are some of the favourite dishes that you must try when you are here. While you might easily get these in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra, too, Nashik adds its charm to the food, and you'll relish every bite of it. Heramb is a favourite restaurant when it comes to authentic Maharashtrian food. Have the thalipeeth or modaks at this restaurant whenever you visit it.

Have misal pav at Ambika Misal. You can either make your misal spicier or request for a less spicy misal while you are here. Misal is a prevalent dish, and you can't leave the City without trying one out here. Jogger's Pavilion, Arabian Express are a few places that serve non-vegetarian food and have quite the reputation of serving delicious food.

How to reach Nashik (Transportation)

By Air

Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport Mumbai is the nearest airport to Nashik. The flight connectivity from Mumbai is pretty good through all domestic routes and international routes. After landing in Mumbai, you'll have to take a taxi or hire a car or take the t rain to Nashik. You'll get pretty good flight deals online and if you're lucky, cheap flight tickets, too. Book flight tickets from any metropolitan or small city to Mumbai, the frequency is quite good. Since there are no direct flights to Nashik, especially international ones, Mumbai is the best pitstop. The Indian Armed Forces is currently using the Nashik airport for tests and trials. It is also used as a Customs airport.

By Rail

Nashik has its railway station and the frequency of trains that run to and from Mumbai are quite high. Pick a favourable time and your budget and book a train. You'll also get buses and rickshaws outside Nashik station that will drop you to your hotel rooms.

By Road

Plan a road trip from Mumbai, Pune, Shirdi or Aurangabad to Nashik, and it might not be that bad an idea. If you are not taking out your vehicle, you can hire one or take a bus that starts from these cities. The frequency is quite good, and the experience won't be too gruelling if you are travelling by road. However, if you want extra comfort, we would suggest hiring a car or taking the train. You'll get your personal space while travelling, too.
