About Kishangarh
Kishangarh is part of the Ajmer district in the desert state of Rajasthan, India. The small city was originally called Kishanpur. However, during a film's shooting, a temporary fort was built in the area as part of the production. With the movie wrapping up, the locals found the setting so beautiful that they refused to let anyone destroy the fort. This eventually led to the name of the city changing from Kishanpur to Kishangarh. The city's airport plays as the perfect connection for people who wish to visit Ajmer. Since the city of Ajmer does not have a dedicated airport, Kishangarh airport is considered to be the way to reach Ajmer by flight. The flight connectivity of Kishangarh is limited as only a few flights from big cities fly in and out of the city.
The city is known for its enigmatic style of painting which is popularly known as Bani Thani. These designs and depictions have global recognition as people from around the globe visit the city to purchase Bani Thani works. Kishangarh's fame also comes from its production of marble.
Best time to visit (Kishangarh)
Kishangarh's climate, in general, is tropical. This means the summers are often hot, and the winters are soothing. Since it is from a desert state, it is not surprising that Kishangarh too witnesses the same climate as the rest of Rajasthan. The summers are extremely hot and challenging to handle. The temperatures in Kishangarh during summers rises to 38 degree Celsius, which is quite a lot. Since the place is hot and humid, it becomes unfavourable and inconvenient to stay or travel within the city. Perhaps the only reason why you would want to visit Kishangarh during summers is to celebrate Holi in Pushkar, which is close to the city. As Holi falls on February or March, many travellers opt to visit Kishangarh at this time. There is no place better than Pushkar to celebrate Holi as the vibe is extremely intoxicating. Plus, the enthusiasm the locals have during the festival adds to the reasons why you should make an off-season visit to Kishangarh. Flight tickets to Kishangarh is also cheap during summers so all the more reason to visit the city.
For Kishangarh's tourism, winter is the best time to visit the city. Thanks to the temperatures dropping in the desert to a comfortable 23 degree Celsius, tourists would have a good time. Often the temperatures further drop to 6 degree Celsius too. Hence, it is advised to carry proper clothing that takes care of you during the cold temperatures. The city sparks to life come winter as it is accompanied by many Hindu festivals such as Diwali and New Year's too. The sky is also clearer so you can take up camel safaris and camp out in the desert to stargaze. The experience would be quite soul-stirring as the dreamy weather with the romantic atmosphere would leave you in a happy daze.
Monsoon is mediocre and can be ignored to visit Kishangarh. However, many do visit Kishangarh during monsoon because it comes with Vinayak Chaturthi. As the festival falls in August or September, the energy to welcome the elephant-headed Lord is in the air. No amount of humidity can take away the excitement that the festival brings to the locals. The rains aren't heavy and extreme but barely some drizzles. Flight tickets to Kishangarh also see a drop. It might be ideal for you to use this time to search for deal flight deals to Kishangarh as there might be plenty online. Even hotel bookings in Kishangarh are easier during monsoon and even summer. Off-season makes the locals drop their prices on the lower bar, making it easy for budget travellers to book hotels in Kishangarh.
Places to visit (Kishangarh)
Kishangarh has a handful of places that are worth visiting. The quaint town has a mighty grey Kishangarh Fort, which is a must-visit. It was constructed by then Rajput Maharaja Swaroop Singh. The fort falls on the route that connects India and Pakistan and is hence, under constant surveillance. Phool Mahal is one such place that you can explore as it is closely located to Kishangarh fort. For some pilgrimage, visit the Khoda Ganesh temple, known to be one of the most spiritual places in the city of Kishangarh. The temple witnesses many newlyweds and is particularly in high spirits during Ganesh Chaturthi.
Since Pushkar is just 79 km away from the city, you can take a bus and head to the temple town as well. Since the Ajmer Sharif Dargah is also close to the city, located at 28 km from Kishangarh, you should definitely visit this beautiful shrine too.
Things to do
Kishangarh's Gondulav lake is a major attraction. Being one of the fewer places with beautiful lakes and water bodies in Rajasthan puts this specific town in the most-recognised list. The lake is situated bang opposite the Phool Mahal Palace and adds more charm to the surrounding. You can immerse your feet in the water and just relax here. Close to the banks of the lake is Sukh Sagar which is basically a vast expanse of green grasses. What makes this place special is how you can walk around and embrace the breeze, especially during winters.
Food and restaurants (Kishangarh)
Even though Kishangarh is a small town, it does have some interesting choices in terms of restaurants and cuisine. Much of the Rajasthani cuisine is adopted by all cities and villages in the state. In fact, they don't really need to make other cuisines available as the authentic Rajasthani cuisine in itself, is a big seller in the market. People flock over from various parties of the country to taste tasty Rajasthani dishes. Be it their daal baati churma or their gatte ki sabzi, the delicacies tend to be on demand at all times, making it easier for the restaurant business to thrive. In Kishangarh too, you'll find amazing restaurants with lip-smacking delicacies.
The most famous restaurant in Kishangarh is Swad. Not only is the food worth all the money but even the vibe of the restaurant and the polite service is commendable. Paharia Sweets and Namkeen's fame comes from the lovely savouries that the place has to offer. You'll also find chole bhatures here and makkhandhaba. Some other good restaurants include Jain Restaurant and Mayur hotel, which have decent food and services.
How to reach Kishangarh (Transportation)
By Air
Located on National Highway 8, Kishangarh Airport is ideal for tourists who plan to reach Ajmer. It is one of the convenient ways to reach the city of Ajmer, as opposed to the usual domestic route which involves switching transport from Jaipur. Although flight connectivity to Kishangarh is limited due to lack of demand, it still is considered as a viable option for Ajmer. You will find flights to Kishangarh from cities such as Ahmedabad, Indore, Hyderabad and Delhi. Only two airlines namely, SpiceJet and Star Air, have dedicated services of domestic flights flying to Kishangarh. The airport is relatively small with a capacity of 150 passengers every hour. Kishangarh Airport has been built in a very sustainable manner to ensure that it caters to the tourists while maintaining the environment of the site. There have been talks to facilitate a tour service from Kishangarh airport to all the pilgrim sites located in Kishangarh and around the city of Ajmer. These include the Dargah of Khwaja Garib Nawaz, the fort of Prithvi Raj Chauhan and Pushkar. There are accommodations to traverse from Kishangarh airport to Ajmer.
By Rail
Kishangarh's railway station is well-connected with some of the big cities in India. Unlike the airport, the railway station has better connectivity owing to the fact that Kishangarh lies on an important domestic route that connects various North and South-bound trains. Thanks to the excellent connection that trains passing and halting at Kishangarh have, they come from all parts of India. Besides, the city's station also has intercity train facilities that connect to Ajmer, a bigger and more recognised city in the district. There are a plethora of lines connecting Kishangarh to many cities and is also easy to reach. Since it is located in the city centre, travelling within Kishangarh becomes quite easy and convenient. There are buses and rickshaws that you can opt for to traverse within the city.
By Road
The city of Kishangarh falls on the National Highway 48 (renumbered from 8) which connects Mumbai and Delhi. The domestic route passes through Kishangarh, which means the possibility of reach the city from the two major cities is possible. In fact, the national highway further connects Jaipur and Baroda (Vadodara) to Kishangarh too as these two cities also lie on the same route. The road connectivity is decent but not favourable. Many don't choose to use this as a mode of transport and instead opt to go by flights or train to Kishangarh. Many even consider taking a rental or bus from Ajmer to Kishangarh as it is a more economically viable and less exhausting option.
About SpiceJet
SpiceJet is one of the most popular airlines in India and quite affordable, too. Lowest airfares and high customer value is what the airline aims to deliver to its passengers. The airline has 630 daily flights operating to 64 destinations, of which 15 are international destinations. It has hubs at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad. One of the specialities of the airlines is its dynamic fares. It makes sure that the fares are affordable to every citizen of the country. Spicejet is practical and yet stylish, and there is no denying it. The airline also has a very efficient and helpful crew who make sure that you have had a safe and comfortable flight. It was founded in 2004 as Royal Airways and commenced operations in 2005 as SpiceJet. The first flight was operated between Mumbai and Delhi after which it soon became the third-largest low-cost carrier in the share market after Air Deccan and Indigo. Media magnate Kalanidhi Maran also acquired a major stake in the airline through Sun Group. The company was originally acquired by entrepreneur Ajay Singh who is the Managing Director of the airline.
SpiceJet initially leased two Boeing 737-800 aircraft when it started operations and had planned to order ten new crafts to expand. By 2010, the airline ordered 30 Boeing 737-8 aircraft and 15 Bombardier Q4 Dash. Though the airline suffered a lot of loss in 2012 due to the increase in global crude prices, it recovered and returned to profits later that year. SpiceJetrecently added the B737 - Max 8 aircraft to its fleet, which is a state-of-the-art aircraft. Most SpiceJet flights can seat from 150 to 200 passengers, except the Bombardier Q400 that only seats between 78 to 90 passengers.
The airline also has an elite SpiceClub, a membership program for passengers that offers a lot of privileges and benefits. You can earn frequent flyer points for every Rs. 100/- spent on the flights, along with the add-ons. If you have enough points, you might even get a chance to fly for free. The airline now also offers premium services to passengers who fly under the SpiceMax program. It allows passengers to choose their seats well in advance along with priority check-in and boarding, priority baggage handling but at a higher price. SpiceJet also has a cargo airline called SpiceXpress which was launched in 2018. It became the first airline that operated freight services between Southeast Asia and North East India after it began its services in 2019 between Guwahati and Hong Kong.
Fleet Size of SpiceJet
With increasing popularity, the airline kept adding more aircraft to increase efficiency. The maximum number of passengers that a SpiceJet flight can seat is up to 212, depending on the aircraft, of course. Boeing 737-900 ER is one of the largest economy passenger flights that can accommodate 212 passengers. Boeing 737-900 can seat 139 economy class passengers and 28 business class passengers. SpiceJet has 4 Boeing 737-900 ER aircraft and only one Boeing 737-900 aircraft. Boeing 737 Max 8 is an upgrade from the previous aircraft and has a narrow body. It can seat 189 economy class passengers. However, due to two fatal accidents of Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, the aircraft was grounded worldwide. Approximately 346 people lost their lives in these plane crashes, which is one of the primary reasons for the aircraft to get grounded worldwide. The Civil Aviation Administration of China was the first one to ground the aircraft nationwide, and other countries followed suit. The aircraft is expected to start flying after some major changes to its flight control system. There are a total 54 Boeing 737-800 aircrafts in service of which 18 also cater to a few business class passengers.
Boeing 737-700 has seven aircraft of which four can accommodate business class passengers. The total capacity of these aircraft is between 134 to 149. SpiceJet also has 2 Airbus A320-200 aircraft that can accommodate up to 180 passengers. The Bombardier Q400 is a comparatively smaller aircraft that accommodates fewer passengers as compared to the Boeing aircraft. SpiceJet has about 32 of these that can accommodate 78 to 90 passengers. SpiceJet has announced that it will induct 16 Boeing 737-800 and 5 more Bombardier Q400, owing to the demand. Since SpiceJet also caters to business class and premium passengers who are willing to pay extra for comfort and exclusive offers, you will find a lot of flights that have sections reserved for these passengers in the aircraft. The best part about the Bombardier Q400 is that there are two people on either side of the aircraft, which makes more room for you to have a relaxing journey. However, it only flies to shorter distances as compared to the other aircraft.
Baggage Allowance
Like most airlines, SpiceJet also has a specific set of rules adhering to the baggage that you can and cannot carry. There are a certain set of rules for domestic passengers and other sets of rules for passengers travelling internationally. Spicejet has certain baggage allowance restrictions that every passenger must follow. Currently, domestic passengers are allowed only one check-in baggage that does not exceed 20 kgs. Passengers who are carrying more than the baggage allowance will have to bear extra costs and will need to be booked at least 6 hours before the flight departure. Make sure you are not carrying any radioactive or explosive items in your baggage. You also have to steer clear of corrosives like acids, alkalis, mercury and compressed flammable or combustible gases. There are also certain rules with carrying your phone charger and power banks that you must follow. You can only carry these in your hand luggage and not your check-in luggage.
It is advisable to get your web check-in done in advance so you won't have to spend a lot of time at the counter. You can just collect your boarding pass, hand over your luggage and head to the gate. SpiceJet allows the Free Baggage Allowance of the International sector if you are travelling from domestic to international or vice versa on a connecting flight within 24 hours. If you have a connecting flight and have to change to another airline, you are allowed Free Baggage Allowance of one check-in bag weighing 20 kg or less. Again, you need to ensure that you are not carrying anything that you are not allowed to carry. It is also advisable that you do not pack your valuables like jewellery, money or electronics in your check-in luggage. Make sure you add those to your hand luggage since the airline is not responsible for any damage to property. It is also a piece of thoughtful advice to protect your assets.
In-flight Services
Though SpiceJet used to function on economy class-only seating when it commenced operations, it introduced premium in-flight services to SpiceJet passengers under the title SpiceMax. Passengers are offered additional benefits like pre-assigned seats with extra legroom, priority check-in and boarding, meals onboard and so on at a higher price. You are also eligible for a complimentary upgrade and free cancellation. The airline does not offer or provide complimentary meals to passengers flying by economy class. Though it has a frequent flyer programme, it does not provide in-flight entertainment options. With the airline evolving and introducing new offers and services to keep its customers happy, don't be surprised if they introduce in-flight entertainment services for the premium passengers.
Popular Routes and Top Cities for SpiceJet
SpiceJet connects to various domestic and international routes on a daily basis. It connects to 54 Indian destinations and 15 international destinations with 630 flights operating on a regular basis. It has its hubs at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad so don't be surprised if your flights have layovers at these cities whether you travel domestically or internationally.
