The airport runway is situated in the Union Territory of Chandigarh. In contrast, the international terminal falls on the south side of the runway, close to the village of Jhiurheri in Mohali, Punjab. The new international terminal came into existence in 2015 and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
