All Nippon Airways Co. Ltd., also popularly known as Zennikk? is Japan's largest airline with respect to revenues and passenger traffic. The airline's official headquarters is situated in Shiodome City Center, the Shiodome area of Minato ward in Tokyo. All Nippon Airways is known to cater to both domestic and international destinations. The airline is also recognised for its staggering passenger traffic, which is recorded to see consistent growth with each passing year. Not just the domestic routes but even international routes of All Nippon Airways has seen a tremendous surge in passenger traffic. Additionally, the airline also caters to a few subsidiary passenger carriers namely, ANA Wings, Air Japan, Peach and Pan Am International Flight Academy. These are mostly regional airlines that cater to the cities within Japan. The airline also has a cargo service, Allex Cargo, that is operated under Air Japan. All Nippon Airways has a higher stake in the regional airline, Peach, which is a low-cost carrier. It is a joint venture between ANA and Hong Kong-based company First Eastern Investment Group.
ANA also has 9.5 per cent stakes in Philippine Airlines and about 8.8 per cent shares in Vietnam Airlines. The airline joined the bandwagon of alliance airlines by becoming a member of Star Alliance in 1999. In 2013, the United Kingdom-based airline and airport review and ranking consultancy, Skytrax, named All Nippon Airways as a 5-star rated airline. Much recently, ANA also announced that they would be chartering private jet flights, after a deal with ANA Business Je Co. Ltd., and Sojitz took off in 2018.
Before moving its management operations to Shiodome City Centre, All Nippon Airways was headquartered on the grounds of Tokyo International Airport (Tokyo Haneda International Airport) in ?ta, Tokyo. The current livery followed by all the All Nippon Airways aircraft has a white and grey fuselage while a blue stripe has been painted under the windows. ANA's logo has been painted on top of the windows with the brand's slogan, "Inspiration of Japan". The vertical stabiliser has also been painted blue with the abbreviation of All Nippon Airways (ANA) painted sideways. Through the years though, the airline has experimented with their liveries and turned rather creative with it. They have curated special designs of liveries. There are six jets which have been painted with the Star Alliance livery. These include two Boeing 777-200s, one Boeing 767-300ER, Boeing 787-9, one Boeing 777-300ER and one Boeing 737-800. Similarly, the airline also has five Pokémon-themed jets where the entire flight has been painted in yellow with characters from the anime. A Star Wars-themed livery has also been incorporated on four of the ANA jets.
Fleet size of All Nippon Airways
All Nippon Airways has a big fleet size which comprises of 241 aircraft and 76 orders that have also been placed. Some of the aircraft in the fleet include Airbus A320-200,
Boeing 737-800s, Airbus A320neo and A321neos, Boeing 737-800s, Boeing 767-300ER, Boeing 777-300ERs, Boeing 787-8s and 787-9s, to name a few. For All Nippon Airways, NAMC YS-11 was an essential aircraft; however, the operation for YS-11 retired eventually in 2006. Interestingly though, these aircraft have been used for museum exhibits or are otherwise taken apart for scraps. As the YS-11 retired in 2006, all the aircraft were either obligated to retire or grounded. Unless someone privately owned them or restored the aircraft, the operations of YS-11 were disbanded. The specific aircraft played quite an important role in All Nippon Airways from the 1970s through 1990 as it was used majorly for domestic route operations. The airlines also dissolved its operations of Airbus A321-100 in 2008. The operations ceased to exist after a partnership of more than ten years with All Nippon Airways being the only Japanese operator.
ANA played the launchpad to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in 2004 and ordered about 50 examples of the same. The orders were then split between short-range 787-3 and 20 long-haul 787-8, but the variants were changed by the airlines. IN 2014, the airlines cemented its orders for seven A320neos, 20 Boeing 777-9Xs, six Boeing 777-300ERs, Airbus A321neos and Boeing 787-9s, to be utilised for short as well as long-haul fleet. The following year, All Nippon Airways also ordered Airbus and Boeing fleet that was worth about USD 2.2 billion. In the same year, the airlines also indulged in an agreement with Airbus in exchange for support to help Skymark Airlines from further bankruptcy. Another agreement was signed with Airbus by ANA where they brought in three Airbus A380s, the aircraft were delivered in 2018 to operate on the international route between Tokyo and Honolulu.
Nippon Airways Baggage Allowance
The baggage allowance for All Nippon Airways has specific rules and regulations that need to be followed by the passengers. Depending on the varied cabin, the baggage allowance changes. However, they have set a standard range that travellers should abide by. For the first class, the weight limit for checked baggage cannot exceed 32 kg. In terms of the number of bags, the first-class passengers can carry three baggage at the most. With respect to the size, the total linear dimensions cannot cross 158 cm, including the pockets, handles and wheels of the baggage. Business-class passengers also follow the same protocol of baggage allowance on All Nippon Airways. The weight cannot exceed 32 kg, and the size limit should be 158 cm with the inclusion of handles, wheels and pockets. The business class, though only allows two bags at the most. These bags can be checked at the departure lobby, or the passenger can do the same at the self-service machine. The premium economy and economy class are comparatively less as the weight limit is 23 kg. The size dimension remains the same, 158 cm, and the number of baggage that can be carried is two.
If your bags do not meet the baggage guidelines as set by the airlines, additional fees will be levied on it. Depending on how much the weight has been exceeded, the sum of fees is applied at the check-in counter. No matter what though, the checked baggage cannot exceed 45 kg. The maximum weight that can be exceeded from 23 kg and 32 kg is 45 kg. The fees also change depending on the number of items exceeded as well as the change in the size limit that has been exceeded. The aircraft also plays a role here in the baggage allowance clauses. The cabin luggage clauses are different as the weight limit is 10 kg while the dimensions cannot exceed 115 cm. The rule applies to all the cabins.
Nippon Airways In-flight services
All Nippon Airways' in-flight services have been refurbished and renewed to provide world-class facilities on air. In 2009, they introduced a cabin called "Inspiration of Japan" which has a fully-flatbed for the business class seats, a proper enclosed first-class suite seats, proper shell back seats that are perfectly fixed in the economy class, a brand new AVOD in-flight entertainment deck, to name a few. The Inspiration of Japan concept has been installed at all the Boeing 777-300ERs, especially catering to the international routes connecting to North American cities. The same is being worked on for its European route flights as well. In 2010, the airlines also introduced individual women' s-only lavatories on all its international flights. They are available on all the economy and business class cabins of their Boeing 787s. Among other in-flight services in All Nippon Airways, they also include a magazine called Wingspan, which can be available on the board set on the in-flight entertainment deck as well as is downloadable for Apple's iPad.
